USAs helse­departement kunngjorde onsdag i forrige uke at virus­laboratoriet i Wuhan ikke kan få noen amerikansk penge­støtte de neste ti årene.

Beslutningen kommer etter at departementet til tross for purringer ikke hadde fått noen respons på en tidligere henvendelse der National Institutes of Health (NIH) hadde anklaget Wuhan-laboratoriet for å ha gjennomført et eksperiment som resulterte i større virus­aktivitet enn det som var forutsatt da pengene ble bevilget fra USA, skriver New York Post.

Eksperimentet det er tale om, gjaldt en studie av koronavirus fra flaggermus, opplyser den amerikanske avisen.

Mer enn tre år etter virus­utbruddet i den kinesiske metropolen, fremstår det som stadig mer over­veiende sannsynlig at korona­viruset som utløste pandemien, kom fra nettopp Wuhan-laboratoriet, som utførte såkalt gain of function-forskning på flaggermus­virus, der man forsøkte å forsterke virusers patogene egenskaper.

Ifølge The Telegraph fant det aktuelle eksperimentet sted i 2018 og 2019, og det viste at et flaggermusvirus med ekstra innsatte piggproteiner tok livet av 75 prosent av humaniserte mus i løpet av to uker.

I helsedepartementets brev til Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) antas det at ingenting er gjort for å eliminere risikoen som ikke er forenlig med amerikansk pengestøtte:

“WIV has not acknowledged the violations, has not cooperated with the Government to address the violations, has not accepted responsibility for the violations, and, therefore, presumably has taken no action to eliminate the risk to the Government in conducting business transactions with WIV presently or into the future,” the letter states.

Lederen for den spesielle underkomiteen i Representantenes hus som gransker utbruddet av koronapandemien, republikeren Brad Wenstrup fra Ohio, sier i en kommentar at dette er et «opplagt skritt i riktig retning», skriver New York Post:

“This is especially timely as mounting evidence and intelligence continue to suggest that the COVID-19 pandemic originated from a laboratory failure in Wuhan,” Wenstrup said. “Rewarding the likely source of a global pandemic with American resources will only lead to more future health risks.”

Men Wenstrup vil også ansvarliggjøre Anthony Fauci:

“Further, the Select Subcommittee recently revealed that prominent public health authorities — including Dr. Anthony Fauci — knew about the risky laboratory conditions in Wuhan prior to the spread of COVID-19 worldwide,” he added.

“Covering up for the failures of a Chinese lab, hiding critical evidence from the American people, and facilitating the public promotion of a false, alternative narrative is extremely concerning and deserves thorough investigation.”

Den republikanske senator Roger Marshall fra Kansas har også en høne å plukke med Peter Daszak:

“EcoHealth Alliance, which was intimately involved with the WIV and viral gain of function research, must also be held accountable and defunded. Other bad actors at play are still receiving U.S. taxpayer dollars to fund WIV-style research and the development of BioTerrorism weapons around the globe. There needs to be an immediate suspension of all gain-of-function research and funding for these CCP military-led projects. Otherwise, we’re playing Russian Roulette with a fully loaded gun.”

USA har tidligere finansiert Wuhan-laboratoriet med 1,4 millioner dollar, opplyser New York Post.
