Regjeringen i Alberta annullerer en avtale om helsesamarbeid med World Economic Forum (WEF), kunngjør den canadiske provinsens nyutnevnte konservative regjeringssjef Danielle Smith.

Smith sier at hun ikke vil ha noe å gjøre med organisasjonen før den slutter å skryte av hvilken kontroll den har over politiske ledere, går det frem av en melding fra The Canadian Press som er offentliggjort i National Post.

Kunngjøringen kom like etter at Smith mandag ble tatt i ed som ny førsteminister i Alberta etter Jason Kenney, som gikk av både som regjeringssjef og leder for United Conservative Party (UCP) på grunn av manglende tillit for sin håndtering av koronapandemien i provinsen, som er en av Canadas rikeste og mest konservative.

Folket skal veilede regjeringen, ikke WEF, mener Smith:

“I find it distasteful when billionaires brag about how much control they have over political leaders,” Smith said at a news conference Monday after her new cabinet was sworn in.

“That is offensive, the people who should be directing government are the people who vote for them.

“Quite frankly, until that organization stops bragging about how much control they have over political leaders, I have no interest in being involved with them.”

For Albertas vedkommende er det altså et helsesamarbeid som kanselleres:

The deal with Alberta Health Services sees the province share ideas with health researchers at Harvard University and the Mayo Clinic under the forum’s umbrella.

Under pressekonferansen mandag forsøkte en reporter forgjeves å få henne til å svare for det vedkommende kalte dystopiske konspirasjonsteorier:

The premier was asked by a reporter Monday if she has concerns about the forum “because you accept the online conspiracy theory that WEF is a front for a global cabal of world leaders bent on using the pandemic to destroy capitalism and install a socialist dysfunctional dystopia.”

Smith declined to answer.

Det er fornuftigst å basere helsepolitikk på ekspertisen til helsepersonell, ikke på WEF, mener Smith:

“The group (WEF) and the person at the helm of it (Klaus Schwab) — I don’t think he’s a medical doctor. I don’t think he’s a nurse, and I don’t think he’s a paramedic and I don’t think he’s a health professional.

“I am going to be taking advice from our front-line nurses, doctors, paramedics and health professionals to fix the local problems that we have.”

Smith hadde langet ut mot WEF også fredagen før innsettelsen som Albertas regjeringssjef, skriver Toronto Star.

[D]uring an appearance on an internet livestream, Smith lashed out at Alberta Health Service’s “partnership with the World Economic Forum” signed during the pandemic and said “we’ve gotta address that.”

“Why in the world do we have anything to do with the World Economic Forum? That’s got to end.”

Smith er svært kritisk til hvordan koronapandemien har vært håndtert i Canada, fremfor alt behandlingen av uvaksinerte:

An impromptu apology to people charged during the COVID-19 pandemic for breaking public health restrictions, particularly pastors and churches, was also offered up by Smith during her media availability.

“I am deeply sorry for anyone who was inappropriately subjected to discrimination as a result of their vaccine status,” she said.

Smith has said she’ll see about cancelling charges against COVID-19 rule breakers during the pandemic.
