Det må gå kaldt ned over ryggen på parlamentarikere som leser at Ali drev rekognosering på flere politikere. Han vurderte også å slå til mot parlamentet, men gav opp pga sikkerhetstiltakene.

Ali knivstakk MP David Amess (69) under et møte denne hadde med velgerne i en metodist-kirke i Essex sist fredag.

Ali meldte seg på velgermøtet en uke på forhånd. Han knivstakk Amess sytten ganger før han satte seg ned og studerte telefonen.

Ali Harbi Ali, 25, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today charged with the murder of the veteran Southend West MP after queuing with constituents at his surgery last Friday.

The court heard Ali allegedly settled on a plot to kill an MP two years ago, initially focusing on two politicians other than Sir David.

He is said to have carried out reconnaissance at one of their homes, the surgery of another and the Houses of Parliament, detectives discovered after investigating his Oyster Card travel within London and CCTV footage.

He was located outside the home of one politician in March, June and July this year, however he was not convinced the address was correct.

Så sent som 28. september vurderte han å gå på et annet møte mellom en parlamentariker og hans velgere.

Ifølge aktoratet tilhørte Ali den islamske staten. Han drepte Amess fordi han hadde stemt for bombing av Syria.

Prosecutors allege that Ali was affiliated with Islamic State and targeted Sir David over the MP’s voting record in support of air strikes on Syria.

He is said to have prepared for terrorist acts from May 1, 2019 to September 28 this year. Senior district judge Paul Goldspring remanded Ali in custody ahead of a preliminary hearing at the Old Bailey tomorrow.

Ali was wearing a grey tracksuit and thick-rimmed black glasses and smiled to his legal team as he entered the court. He then sat silently throughout the hearing, only speaking to confirm his name, age, and address.
